Where do we store our furniture and valuables while you
refinish/install our hardwood floor?
Leveraging a partnership with a local storage business, Voyageur
Flooring will deliver a portable storage unit to your house one week
before the sanding/installation of your hardwood floor for you to use as
storage. After the work on the hardwood floor is completed, you will have one week to
move your things back in, at which point we will remove the portable
storage unit from your driveway. We offer this option as a part of
our “regular” services to customers.
How do you contain the dust when you
refinish our hardwood floor?
At Voyageur Flooring we offer a “dust-control” service by taping off
the refinish area during the sanding process with plastic.
How long does a hardwood floor last when you install or refinish
it?
At Voyageur Flooring, we use only the best products available.
Because of this you can expect the finish on your hardwood floor to last from
7-10 years. (The need to refinish your hardwood floors, at some time, occurs
because of normal everyday traffic and wear.) For comparison, most
hardwood floor companies use products that will last between 3-5
years.
Can you match the hardwood floors that I have in my house?
Voyageur Flooring will work with you to find a
solution that best matches and fits into your home. Older hardwood floors are
not as easily matched, but it can be done. New hardwood floors are usually
quite simple to match.
What is the best finish for wear and tear?
Voyageur Flooring uses Diamondlac Waterborne Urethane Finish, as we
feel that it is the best finish for short-term and long-term
benefits. (We are quite emphatic about this).
If I have pets, is there a hardwood floor that is harder or a finish that
helps protect the hardwood floor from scratching?
Though oak is the most commonly used hardwood floor, there are woods
that are harder and more durable. For example, Hickory, Santos
Mahogany, Hard Maple, or Brazilian Cherry. The Diamondlac Waterborne Urethane finish we
use is the best on the market for durability and longevity.
Is it possible to change the stain color on my current hardwood floor, say
from a lighter oak to a darker stain?
Yes, it does involve sanding the floor, staining and finishing
(coating)
Why are hardwood floors so expensive?
If taken care of, hardwood floors can last a lifetime with proper cleaning,
felt pads on furniture, and recoats every 7-10 years. Hardwood
floors also help you add equity and value to your home.
How long will it take?
It depends on the job, but most hardwood flooring projects average 2-3 days.
Do I have to be out of my house?
Voyageur Flooring will work with you to make your flooring process
simple. Although you do not need to leave your home, it does
sometimes make it easier for everyone. (While we are working, you
may not have access to areas that are being sanded or coated.)
Are the chemicals used harmful?
No, Diamondlac Waterborne Urethane is a very low odor finish because of its low VOC
(Volatile Operative Chemical) count.
Do hardwood floors shrink and contract with the seasons and is this a
problem?
Because of the range of temperatures and humidity levels we
experience in Minnesota, we do see some expansion/contraction in the
summer and winter. However, this does not usually cause a problem.
Will you be on time when you schedule an appointment?
Yes, we will be on time. In the rare event of a reschedule,
Voyageur
Flooring will provide professional (respectful) communications
to you.
